Bvuma Not Bothered That He’s Not Playing

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma says he is not bothered by his lack of game time, insisting that simply playing for Amakhosi is a dream come true.

Bvuma has not played a single minute for Chiefs this season, with Brandon Petersen having guarded the goals with distinction, leaving the 30-year-old with limited opportunities. Petersen has kept 11 clean sheets in the league and 14 across all competitions in 22 matches this term.

In addition, Petersen’s appointment as Amakhosi captain has further strengthened his position as first choice, making it difficult for Bvuma to stake a claim in the starting line-up.

The last time Bvuma featured for Chiefs was in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on 3 May last year, a match Amakhosi lost 2–1. He is expected to start on the bench when Chiefs host ZESCO United in their CAF Confederation Cup group-stage match at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday (15:00).

However, Bvuma says his current role does not trouble him.

“For me, playing for Kaizer Chiefs is a dream,” said Bvuma.
“Whether I’m playing or not, as long as the team is doing well, I’m happy. What keeps me going is knowing that I’m still a Kaizer Chiefs player. We are getting the results we want as a team and the team is growing, and that is what matters most right now.”

Bvuma, who was promoted from the club’s development ranks in 2017, is set to deputise Petersen when required, especially with Fiacre Ntwari sidelined through injury.

Since making his PSL debut against Cape Town City on 25 April 2017 under coach Steve Komphela at the age of 21 years, 10 months and 10 days, Bvuma has made 79 appearances for Chiefs, conceding 86 goals and keeping 28 clean sheets.
