Chiefs Struggle As Pirates And Sundowns Win Again

Kaizer Chiefs’ difficult run in the DStv Diski Challenge continued on Saturday as Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns once again secured maximum points to strengthen their push in the ongoing race for the league title.
The defending champions, Chiefs, headed into their clash against Sekhukhune United at Isak Steyl Stadium already under pressure, having endured a tough year so far and still searching for their first victory of the year. Their struggles persisted as they were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw.
Following the stalemate, the Phefeni Glamour Boys remain fifth on the log with 28 points, a position they have occupied since the start of the year without moving up or down.
In contrast, the Buccaneers maintained their impressive form as they continued fighting for their first DStv Diski Challenge crown.
Pirates edged Marumo Gallants 3-2 at CUT Stadium, moving to 47 points and remaining firmly at the top of the standings.
Sundowns also kept the pressure on the log leaders with a commanding 4-1 victory over the Durban-based side, Durban City, at Chatsworth Stadium.
The Brazilians remain second on the table with 42 points as they continue chasing Pirates in the title race.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Magesi and Polokwane City shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in the Limpopo Derby at Seshego Stadium.
Siwelele secured a 3-1 win against TS Galaxy at UJ Soweto Stadium, while Golden Arrows suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Chippa United at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
The Premier Soccer League reserve league action continues on Sunday, with Stellenbosch set to host AmaZulu at Idas Valley Stadium, and Richards Bay travelling to face Orbit College at Olympia Park Stadium.
