“He Lifts The Team” – Kaze Praises Amakhosi Duo As Chiefs Gain Momentum

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has expressed his satisfaction following the return of captain and goalkeeper Brandon Petersen after a spell on the sidelines due to injury.

The 31-year-old shot-stopper began the season in outstanding form, producing a string of impressive performances and keeping 12 clean sheets in 17 league matches.

Petersen’s consistency and composure at the back made him a key figure for Amakhosi early in the campaign. However, his progress was halted in February when he sustained an injury that ruled him out for five matches, including the highly anticipated Soweto Derby.

The former Bidvest Wits goalkeeper returned to action on Sunday and immediately reminded everyone of his quality, keeping a clean sheet as Chiefs secured a 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy at FNB Stadium.

“About Brandon, he is our captain and a player who gives you confidence and stability at the back,” said Kaze.

“He is a leader on and off the field, and we are happy that he is back. I hope he can maintain this level of performance going forward.”

The 46-year-old coach also reserved special praise for Lebohang Maboe, who has been one of Chiefs’ standout performers this season.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder has been instrumental in Amakhosi’s progress, earning four Man of the Match awards, including an impressive run of three consecutive accolades.

“In every system we use, the midfielder plays a crucial role. When the midfield performs well, the rest of the team follows,” he added.

“It is important to have a player who understands the game and can lead others both technically and mentally. He knows when to push forward and when to slow the game down, and he is always looking to play positively.

“He is also strong on set pieces, and it is valuable to have that kind of player. His experience is invaluable — he lifts the team.”

With Petersen back in goal and Maboe continuing his fine form, Chiefs will look to build momentum when they face Magesi at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday.
