Orbit Vow To Defy Pirates In Title Showdown

Orbit College assistant coach Kabelo Machete believes his relegation-threatened side will stun Orlando Pirates on Saturday, deciding whether the Betway Premiership title goes to the Buccaneers or Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Mswenko Boys are desperate to avoid dropping points. They currently occupy 15th place on the log standings with 21 matches from 29 matches.

While a defeat could automatically condemn Orbit to direct relegation—should bottom-placed Magesi beat Richards Bay—the relegation play-offs remain a possible safety net.

Crucially, Orbit College holds the ultimate wildcard in the PSL title race. Pirates are fighting to end a 14-year league championship drought, while Sundowns watch from the sidelines.

“We Hold the Keys”

Machete warned the Soweto giants that the neutral venue in Mpumalanga could produce a massive upset.

“I think the Premier [of Mpumalanga, Mandla Ndlovu], first alluded to the stadium being a banana peel,” said Machete.

“Tears are going to flow there, but we do not know where those tears will come from.”

According to the assistant coach, the mood in the camp is exceptionally positive, with the underdog squad eager to play the role of kingmaker.

“The mood is very positive for us as a team to be up against one of the big teams tomorrow and to be the deciding factor,” said Machete.

“I mean, we hold the key whether it’s going to Mamelodi or whether it’s going to Orlando. The boys know that we are holding the keys, so if you want the keys, you know where to go — to the students. But we are ready for tomorrow.”
