Freese Shifts Focus To Milford FC Clash

Magesi coach Allan Freese believes his side’s 2-0 victory over Cape Town City in the PSL promotion/relegation playoffs will provide a significant confidence boost ahead of their crucial next fixture.

Magesi will travel to KwaZulu-Natal to face Milford FC on Wednesday, with both teams currently tied on three points in the playoff standings. However, the Limpopo-based outfit sits at the top of the table thanks to a superior goal difference.

The victory over City marked a strong start to Magesi’s playoff campaign and reinforced their determination to retain their Betway Premiership status after finishing 15th in the 2025/26 season.

In contrast, Cape Town City’s hopes of preserving their top-flight status appear to be hanging by a thread. The Citizens have now suffered two defeats in the playoffs, following their earlier 1-0 loss to Milford FC, leaving them with a daunting task if they are to avoid spending another season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Freese believes the result against City has put his team in a strong position heading into their clash with Milford, although he stressed the importance of thoroughly analysing their opponents before finalising his plans.

“It should give us confidence going into the next game,” said Freese.

“The two goals may go a long way in this tournament. I’ll have to study how they play before we make any plans. We will prepare properly and go there with the intention of getting a positive result.”

With promotion and survival hanging in the balance, Wednesday’s encounter could prove pivotal in determining which team secures a place in next season’s Betway Premiership.
