SAFA Delegation Visits Family Of Late Bafana And Sundowns Star Adams
The South African Football Association (SAFA) has visited the family of the late former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder Jayden Adams to offer its heartfelt condolences following his tragic passing, as the country’s football fraternity continues to mourn one of South Africa’s brightest talents.
The football community remains in shock following Adams’ death at the age of 25, which sent shockwaves through the sport on Saturday.
The global weight of the tribute was honored—England vs. Norway and Argentina vs. Switzerland—and placed South African football at the center of the world’s eye during a moment of immense sorrow.
Among those who visited the Adams family were SAFA president Danny Jordaan and Bafana Bafana team manager Vincent Tseka, who paid their respects and expressed the association’s support during this difficult time.
The passing of the talented midfielder has attracted global attention, with FIFA observing a moment of silence before the FIFA World Cup quarter-final matches between England and Norway, as well as Argentina and Switzerland.
Adams was part of the Bafana Bafana squad that made history at the ongoing FIFA World Cup by becoming the first South African senior men’s national team to reach the knockout stages of the global tournament.
The 25-year-old featured in all of Bafana Bafana’s group-stage matches before being an unused substitute in the Round of 32 defeat to Canada.
Adams will also be remembered for helping Mamelodi Sundowns win their second CAF Champions League title in 2026 and for playing a key role in Bafana Bafana’s bronze-medal finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Hugo Broos’ side secured third place.
Before joining Sundowns, Adams also helped Stellenbosch make history by winning the club’s first major top-flight trophy, lifting the 2023 Carling Knockout with a victory over TS Galaxy in the final at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
