Ghanaian Giants Appoint Eric Tinkler As Head Coach

Ghana Premier League powerhouses Asante Kotoko have officially announced the appointment of experienced South African tactician Eric Tinkler as their new head coach.
The 55-year-old was left without a club after cut-and-thrust domestic campaigns saw him part ways with Betway Premiership outfit Sekhukhune United by mutual consent back in April.
With no enticing offers immediately materializing in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), Tinkler has opted for his first career move abroad to head up the Kumasi-based “Porcupine Warriors”.
The highly decorated tactician brings an elite pedigree to West Africa, famously forming part of the legendary Bafana Bafana squad that lifted the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations trophy on home soil.
A Proven Continental Pedigree
Tinkler’s domestic and continental track record speaks for itself. In South Africa, he enjoyed knockout success by capturing the Telkom Knockout with Cape Town City in 2016 and adding the MTN8 crown to his trophy cabinet with SuperSport United a year later.
Beyond local silverware, the new Kotoko boss boasts extensive experience on the African continent, having guided two different South African clubs to major CAF finals in the past:
- 2015: Reached the CAF Confederation Cup final during a highly charged stint with Soweto giants Orlando Pirates.
- 2017: Led Pretoria-based SuperSport United to the final of the same continental competition.
Fresh Horizon in Kumasi
The former Bafana midfielder has accumulated massive top-flight experience from the dugout, having managed standard-setting South African clubs like Orlando Pirates, Chippa United, and Maritzburg United (now rebranded as Durban City).
Tinkler will work alongside newly appointed Director of Football Stanley Menzo as Asante Kotoko look to reassert their historical dominance both in domestic league football and across upcoming CAF club competitions
Kotoko are two-time CAF Champions League winners (historically known as the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1970 and 1983).
