Orlando Pirates And Adidas Partner With St David’s Challenge Cup
St David’s Marist Inanda will once again welcome South Africa’s top school football talent when the 2026 Challenge Cup returns from 7 to 9 August 2026, with Adidas and Orlando Pirates Football Club partnering with the tournament to elevate one of the country’s premier school football events.
Now in its 22nd edition, the Challenge Cup has become a cornerstone of South Africa’s school football calendar. Since its inception in 2003, the tournament has provided a platform for thousands of young footballers to compete at the highest level of school football while promoting the values that define the very best of school sport—discipline, respect, teamwork, resilience, leadership and character.
The tournament also reflects St David’s Marist Inanda’s long-standing commitment to sport as a vehicle for holistic education and youth development. By creating opportunities for young players to compete against the country’s strongest football programmes, the Challenge Cup contributes to the talent pathway that supports South Africa’s clubs, provincial structures and, ultimately, the national game.
This year’s edition will bring together 50 teams from leading schools across South Africa, with 864 players and team officials competing in 132 matches over three action-packed days across six fields on the St David’s Marist Inanda campus.
The tournament will feature four divisions:
- Under-19 Tournament
- Under-15 Festival
- Under-19 Festival
- Under-12 Festival
Among the schools competing are some of South Africa’s most respected football programmes, including Grey College, Hilton College, Michaelhouse, Jeppe High School for Boys, King Edward VII School, St John’s College, Norkem Park High School, St Benedict’s College, St Stithians College and hosts St David’s Marist Inanda. The home side’s Under-19 team returns as the defending Challenge Cup champions, setting the stage for another highly competitive weekend of football.
Adding to the excitement, Orlando Pirates Football Club will host a football coaching clinic for Under-12 players during the tournament, giving participants the opportunity to learn from one of South Africa’s most successful professional clubs. The clinic will provide young footballers with valuable technical coaching, skills development and insights from experienced Pirates coaches, creating a memorable experience that extends beyond matchday competition while reinforcing the club’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of football talent.
Spectators can also look forward to a vibrant matchday atmosphere, with food vendors available throughout the tournament, making it an enjoyable weekend for players, families, alumni and football supporters alike.
