Former Bafana Team Manager Nkumane Passes Away

Former Bafana Bafana team manager and veteran administrator Sipho Nkumane has passed away, SAFA president Danny Jordaan confirmed to Sportswire.

Nkumane served South African football in multiple high-profile capacities over many years, most notably as SAFA’s Head of Regions and as national team manager during the critical buildup to the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

How Did SAFA Pay Tribute to Sipho Nkumane?

Speaking to Sportswire, SAFA president Danny Jordaan expressed deep sadness at Nkumane’s passing and extended condolences on behalf of the association.

“Our sincere condolences go out to the family of Sipho Nkumane, the former head of regions and former manager of Bafana Bafana,” Jordaan told Sportswire. “We thank him for his long and dedicated service to SAFA. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

What Was Sipho Nkumane’s Role with Bafana Bafana?

Nkumane was a central figure in football administration during a defining period for South Africa. Ahead of the 2010 World Cup on home soil, he managed team logistics during Bafana Bafana’s preparations before stepping aside a month prior to the tournament, at which point veteran administrator Dennis Mumble assumed acting duties.

Beyond his time with the senior national team, Nkumane played a key role in developing regional football structures across the country, serving as SAFA’s Head of Regions to strengthen grassroots administration.

The sad news comes as Bafana Bafana prepare to return to international action in September for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea.
