DStv Diski Challenge Results: Sundowns And Stellenbosch Bounce Back With Victories

Mamelodi Sundowns returned to winning ways in the DStv Diski Challenge with a convincing 3-0 victory over Kruger United at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday morning.

The Brazilians were eager to bounce back after suffering a 4-2 defeat to log leaders Kaizer Chiefs last weekend.

Sundowns made a strong start and went into the half-time break with a 1-0 lead, courtesy of Simphiwe Mlondo’s goal.

The 2016/17 Diski Challenge champions maintained their momentum in the second half, with Lehlohonolo Mahlangu and Sechaba Gaseitsiwe finding the back of the net to seal a comfortable victory.

The win lifted Sundowns to sixth place in the standings, with six points from their opening three matches of the season.

Meanwhile, two-time Diski Challenge champions Stellenbosch recorded their first victory of the campaign after edging Polokwane City 2-1 at Idas Valley Sports Ground on Sunday.

Stellenbosch entered the match looking to recover from defeats in their opening two league fixtures, and they got their campaign back on track by claiming all three points.

Elsewhere, Milford suffered a disappointing 4-2 home defeat to Marumo Gallants at Princess Magogo Stadium, while Sekhukhune United secured a 2-0 victory over Durban City at UJ AW Muller Stadium.

Saturday’s action saw Golden Arrows record the biggest victory of the weekend, thrashing Chippa United 9-2 in a dominant display.

Chiefs continued their positive start to the campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Richards Bay, while Siwelele claimed a 2-1 victory over Orlando Pirates.

The weekend’s action also saw TS Galaxy and AmaZulu play out a goalless draw, with both sides settling for a point.
