“A Big Loss”: Cardoso Delivers Devastating Mudau Injury News

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso revealed that the early prognosis is concerning for right-back Khuliso Mudau, who suffered a serious Achilles injury during Wednesday night’s 2–0 victory over Marumo Gallants.

According to Cardoso, the Bafana Bafana defender sustained the non-contact Achilles injury off the ball at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Mudau was stretchered off in the 38th minute and replaced by Zuko Mdunyelwa.

The victory elevated Sundowns to third in the Betway Premiership table on seven points, level with log leaders Orlando Pirates and second-placed Kaizer Chiefs.

“Mudau has a very serious injury,” Cardoso said after the game on SuperSport TV.

“Obviously, a player of his quality and calibre is a big loss for South Africa and, especially, for us.

“I’m happy for Marcelo Allende [who was named Man of the Match]. I think South Africa doesn’t recognise the quality of the player Marcelo is.

“It is unbelievable that after five years he has never won the Midfielder of the Season award. Maybe this season, as he has said this could be the last, or at least the last year of his contract, somehow he will be recognised.”

Expanding on Mudau’s injury, Cardoso added: “It is a very severe injury.”

Sundowns are also without Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena, who is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a foot injury against Polokwane City.

“He got injured outside the pitch; there was no contact,” Cardoso continued about Mudau.

“I thought it was the one in the middle that happened earlier. We reviewed the action; this one was not from the tackle. Unfortunately, Mokoena is still not okay from that first-match injury.

“It happens in football. There are accidents in F1, and there are injuries in football. It is a big loss, but let’s hope the other ones are ready for the challenge ahead, of course.”
