Adams Scores His First Goal As Sundowns Beat SuperSport

Jayden Adams scored his first goal for Mamelodi Sundowns as the Brazilians beat SuperSport United 3-0 in the Tshwane Derby at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Brazilians scored two goals in the first half, while the second goal came in during the second half and both the other goals were scored by Tashreeq Matthews.

Sundowns started the game on a high foot as they got a chance before 10 minutes but Lucas Ribeiro Costa’s shot was denied by Thakasani Mbanjwa who made a great save.

The Brazilians continued knocking and they got the first goal in the 11th minute through Adams. The second goal for the Brazilians came in just before half-time in the 44th through Matthews with a great assist from Shalulile. In the second half, Sundowns continued doing well as they scored the third goal in the 50th minute where Matthews scored a brace.

Miguel Cardoso decided to make an early substitution taking off Zuko Mdunyelwa, Ribeiro Costa, and Marcelo Allende to save them for the game against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

In those subs, Lucas Suarez made his debut for the Brazilians. The other player who played for the first time this season was Matias Esquivel. This was the sixth time Sundowns beat SuperSport home and away in one season since the formation of the Premier Soccer League in 1996.

The Brazilians beat SuperSport for the first time home and away during the 1999/00 season, and they won the league in that season while Amatsatsantsa was lying in the 10th place.

Another notable stat in Tshwane Derby is that in the last 25 games these two sides facing each other including today’s game, they produced only one goalless draw during the 2020/21 season in the second round.

Sundowns moved to 39 points after 14 games, leading Pirates with six points and the Buccaneers still have one game in hand. Pirates edged out Sekhukhune United also at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, to make the game on Saturday hugely anticipated as the tickets of that game have been sold out.
