AmaZulu Intensifies Striker Search, Targets Chikua And Kibu

AmaZulu’s search for a new striker is intensifying, as confirmed by the club’s co-coaches.
Following the signings of Bongani Zungu and Sandile Mthethwa last month, co-coach Vusi Vilakazi emphasized the need for a permanent striker, given that top marksman Etiosa Ighodaro is on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns. The loan agreement prohibits Ighodaro from playing against his parent club, which was the case a couple of days ago.
According to Sportswire, AmaZulu has set its sights on Lynoth Chikua from Highlanders FC in Zimbabwe and Denis Kibu from Simba SC in Tanzania.
Securing Chikua could be relatively straightforward, as his contract with the Zimbabwean side expired on 31 December. The 2024 Castle Premier League Golden Boot winner, who scored 17 goals, has also attracted interest from Magesi FC, who are currently struggling at the bottom of the Betway Premiership.
However, acquiring Kibu may prove more challenging. Simba SC coach Fadlu Davids is keen to retain the player, who has already scored three goals in four CAF Confederation Cup matches this season.
AmaZulu, currently 11th in the Betway Premiership with 12 points from 10 matches, have relied heavily on attacking midfielder Hendrick Ekstein for goals. Ekstein scored the winning goal in their recent victory over Cape Town City to make it four this season.
The team’s next fixture is the Durban Derby against Golden Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday at 15:30.
