Chiefs Struggling To Find Consistency, Coach Nabi Acknowledges
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi believes that things will eventually come together for his side, but acknowledges that progress has been hindered by numerous factors.
Nabi, who was appointed during the off-season, says the intense scrutiny surrounding his job has had a significant impact on the team. He also cited injuries as a major contributor to the team’s fluctuating results.
Chiefs, who celebrated two early-season victories and the appointment of a coach capable of leading them to the league title, have seen those hopes diminish. Following their initial two wins in September, the team struggled to maintain consistency, with their next two victories not arriving until November and December.
Currently, Mamelodi Sundowns sit atop the Betway Premiership table, enjoying a comfortable 15-point lead over seventh-placed Chiefs. Chiefs have also struggled to find the back of the net, scoring only 14 goals while conceding 13 in their 10 matches.
Nabi acknowledged the team’s inconsistency. “We believe that we can after the win over Chippa (United on 29 December), we can build from this.
“There are three factors that have impacted us – the pressure from the media, the pressure from outside, the injuries and the inconsistency of the young players has stopped a little bit of progression.
“But we will build from it and continue from it.”
Chiefs will next face Cape Town City at DHL Stadium on Sunday. City has a new head coach in the form of former Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral, who was appointed on Thursday morning to replace Eric Tinkler.
