City Part Ways With Tinkler

Cape Town City has confirmed that they have mutually agreed to part ways with head coach Eric Tinkler with immediate effect.

The club announced that an interim coach will be appointed ahead of the 2025/26 season. Tinkler leaves City positioned 12th in the Betway Premiership table with 11 points after 10 matches. His last game in charge was a 1-0 loss to AmaZulu this past weekend.

“Cape Town City and head coach Eric Tinkler have mutually agreed to part ways,” said City in a statement.

“The club expresses gratitude towards Eric for the last three seasons where he presided over 2nd, 4th, and 5th place finishes. We wish Eric the very best for the future. The club will announce a new interim coach as we build up to an exciting new project for the 25/26 season and beyond.”

The 54-year-old, a member of the 1996 AFCON-winning Bafana Bafana squad, was in his second spell with City, rejoining the club in May 2021.

He was instrumental in the club’s early success, having joined City when chairman John Comitis acquired the status of Mpumalanga Black Aces ahead of the 2016/17 season. Within 144 days of the club’s formation, they achieved a significant milestone by winning the Carling Knockout Cup trophy, defeating SuperSport United in the final in Polokwane.

Tinkler’s departure follows that of Kwanele Kopo, who turned down a contract extension offer from Chippa United on Tuesday.

The former Orlando Pirates coach joins a growing list of coaches who have left their positions at PSL clubs this season, including Pablo Franco Martin, Brandon Truter, Sead Ramovic, Mabhuti Khenyeza, Harry Hyballa, Manqoba Mngqithi, and Clinton Larsen.
