Pirates Reclaim Top Spot With Commanding Victory Over AmaZulu

Orlando Pirates returned to the summit of the Betway Premiership standings following a convincing 3-0 victory over AmaZulu at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Following this important win, the Buccaneers now sit on 58 points from 25 matches. They were eager to bounce back after a disappointing 2–2 draw against Richards Bay FC last weekend.
Pirates are currently two points ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns, who still have two games in hand due to their involvement in CAF Champions League fixtures over the past two weekends.
The goals for Pirates were scored by Yanela Mbuthuma, Oswin Appollis, and Relebohile Mofokeng, who also had a chance to complete a brace but missed a penalty.
Next up for Pirates in their pursuit of the league title is a highly anticipated Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium next Sunday.
Pirates started brightly and opened the scoring early, with Mbuthuma heading home from the centre of the box after being set up by Tshepang Moremi.
Just before half-time, Pirates doubled their lead through Appollis, who struck a right-footed effort from outside the box into the bottom-left corner, with the assist coming from Mofokeng.
In the second half, Pirates extended their advantage within the opening 15 minutes as Mofokeng scored a superb right-footed strike from outside the box into the top-left corner, assisted by Nkosikhona Ndaba.
Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side continued to show determination, and their persistence nearly paid off when Appollis forced Taariq Fielies into conceding a handball inside the box, resulting in a penalty.
However, Mofokeng was unable to convert from the spot as his right-footed effort struck the woodwork. Pirates continued to press for more goals in the closing stages but were unable to add to their tally, with the match ending 3–0 in their favour.
