AmaZulu Recalls Guinean Striker In Surprising U-Turn

In an astonishing move, AmaZulu has reinstated Guinean striker Boniface Haba to their squad.

Haba was among the 16 players released from the 19 who departed Usuthu at the close of last season.

The three players who left AmaZulu included Sifiso Ngobeni and Etiosa Ighodaro, who returned to Mamelodi Sundowns after their loan spells, and Tshepang Moremi was sold to Orlando Pirates.

Haba’s Return and Previous Stint

The decision to bring back the Guinea international marks a significant reversal for the club. Haba had previously struggled to secure a regular spot under former coach Arthur Zwane.

AmaZulu initially signed Haba at the beginning of last season from Olympic Safi in his home country, where he arrived with a strong reputation, including six Guinean Ligue 1 titles. However, he failed to replicate that form with Usuthu, featuring in only eight matches and failing to score a single goal last term.

A Second Chance for Haba

Despite his previous struggles, the 29-year-old will be given another opportunity to prove himself in the upcoming season. This comes as AmaZulu finished in the top eight for the first time in two seasons, indicating a desire to build on recent progress.

AmaZulu recently departed Durban for a week-long pre-season training camp in Polokwane. The squad includes several new faces such as Liam Bern, Keagan Allan, Darren Johnson, Ryan Moon, Sbu Shibane, Liam De Kock, and Simon Van Duivenbooden.

The team is expected to return to Durban on Sunday to continue their preparations for the new season.
