AmaZulu Sign Ighodaro On Loan

AmaZulu has secured the loan signing of Nigerian forward Etiosa Ighodaro from Mamelodi Sundowns until the end of the season.

Ighodaro spent last season on loan at SuperSport United, scoring five goals in 34 appearances across all competitions. This follows loan spells with Chippa United (10 league goals in 2022/23) and University of Pretoria (2020/21).

At 23 years old, Ighodaro fills a gap in AmaZulu’s attack following the departures of Victor Letsoalo and Augustine Kwem at the end of the season. The club also tragically lost burly Bongi Ntuli last year.

According to Sportswire sources, the deal for Ighodaro was finalized on Monday morning, the same day AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu addressed the media.

Zungu reflected on the previous season, where Usuthu finished outside the top eight under coach Pablo Franco Martin, which was for the second consecutive year. He expressed his ambition for the upcoming season, aiming for a top-four finish and a return to CAF club competitions, which the team played in under Benni McCarthy in 2021/22.

The president also confirmed the club’s parting ways with long-time sponsors Spar (since the 90s) and Grindrod, who came in the 2021/22 season. New sponsors, the team’s new kit for next season, and additional signings (including Ighodaro) will be unveiled at a press conference later this month at Zunguness.
