Mosimane Open To Bafana Bafana And DStv Premiership Return

Despite recent setbacks in the Middle East, decorated South African coach Pitso Mosimane has expressed openness to returning to Bafana Bafana and the DStv Premiership in the future.

Mosimane is currently without a club after Abha’s relegation from the Saudi Pro League. This marked the first time in his career that a team under his management was demoted.

Prior to Abha, his stint with UAE club Al Wahda FC also proved challenging. He only oversaw 10 matches before being relieved of his duties.

However, despite these experiences and recent links to the Kaizer Chiefs job (ultimately filled by Nasreddine Nabi), Mosimane hasn’t ruled out a South African comeback.

“I’m at the point in my career where I coach anywhere, as long as it’s in the right environment and the project is good, I don’t have emotions of coming back,” Mosimane said on Game on.

“I will coach any team in South Africa and Bafana I can come back later. I think we should also accept and be honest that we should not disturb the momentum with Hugo Broos, he is doing exceptionally well. But yes, I would come for Bafana.”

He acknowledged the current momentum under Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, stating, “I wouldn’t disrupt that progress. But yes, I’d consider returning to the national team in the future.”

While unemployed, Mosimane revealed receiving several offers. However, he emphasizes selectivity: “I could have a team tomorrow, but the project must align with my career goals.”

“Currently I’m unemployed, I don’t have a team, but I can have a team tomorrow if I want because there are a lot of proposals,” he said.

“But the project must suit me in this stage of my career now. I can’t just go anywhere because somebody else says I must come or go to a team that can afford me financially but then I won’t win any trophies when I get there.

“For example, if it’s in Africa, I have no chance to win the Champions League and the league. So, if I go to a team like that, it must be a project where I will be tasked with building the team to a certain level, then it’s okay.

“But if I go to a team that has no chance to win the Champions League and then you say to me, I need you to win the Champions League because we can afford to pay your salary, no I don’t need that.

“I’m in a point of my career where I choose what’s right, not just take any job because I need to pay the bills.”
