Bafana Slips Yet Again In Rankings
Bafana Bafana slipped one spot in the latest FIFA world rankings, dropping from 59th to 60th.
Despite remaining undefeated in October during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the South African national team fell a position.
Earlier this year, Bafana Bafana had fluctuated between 57th and 58th in the rankings. This 60th-place finish marks their lowest ranking of 2024, surpassing last year’s low of 66th.
On the African continent, Bafana Bafana maintained their 11th position, with Morocco continuing to lead the charge followed by Senegal, Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Cameroon, Mali, and DR Congo.
The next FIFA rankings update is scheduled for 28 November.
Hugo Broos’ side recorded a 5-0 victory over Congo at home in October but settled for a 1-1 draw away. The latter result proved costly, as a win would have secured their place in the upcoming AFCON finals.
Bafana Bafana, who once climbed as high as 16th in the world rankings, will be aiming to improve their position in November. With crucial AFCON qualifying matches against Uganda away and South Sudan at home next month, a win will guarantee their participation in the tournament in Morocco.
