Billiat In Scoring Form In Zim
Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns talisman Khama Billiat is reviving his career back home in Zimbabwe.
He scored his eighth league goal of the season and is now the firm favorite to win the Golden Boot as he became joint top goal scorer alongside CAPS United center-forward William Manondo.
Billiat found the back of the net with a close-range finish in the 72nd minute in Yadah FC’s 2-0 victory over Bikita Minerals in a Castle Larger Premier Soccer League fixture played at the Heart Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The 2016 PSL footballer of the season signed for Yadah FC in February 2024 in a bid to reignite his career in his native country after parting ways with the Chiefs at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, ending his 12-year stay in South Africa.
The former Zimbabwe international has found his rhythm again and is living up to the billing, raising the stature of Yadah FC, who have struggled to finish the season above 13th place since their promotion to the Zimbabwe top-flight league in 2016.
However, following their win, the Miracle Boys are currently 12th placed with 22 points in the 18-team league table with the season halfway through after 19 matches played and have won five matches, drew, and lost seven.
The 33-year-old forward has been instrumental to Yadah’s resurgence, contributing to almost half of the 19 goals the club has scored in the league so far. Meanwhile, former SuperSport United striker Evans Rusike has also been a key figure since joining in April.
With consistently impressive performances and 15 more rounds of fixtures remaining, Billiat is well-positioned to win the Zimbabwe PSL Golden Boot. Moreover, he is reportedly considering coming out of retirement to help the Zimbabwe national team.
It remains to be seen how the highest-paid player in the league will fare for the remainder of the campaign with the 2024 Chibuku Super Cup on the horizon as Yadah FC looks to improve and finish the season in positive spirits.
