Black Leopards Sack Ghanaian Coach Konadu

Black Leopards have fired Ghanaian coach Maxwell Konadu with immediate effect, Sportswire has learned.

Konadu, who was born in Kumasi, Ghana, was appointed by the Venda-based club in July 2024. However, a loss to Musa Nyatama’s Lerumo United on Saturday away from home prompted the club to terminate his contract.

The 52-year-old departs with Leopards sitting 10th in the Motsepe Foundation Championship table, having accumulated 23 points from 17 matches.

Sportswire has also been informed that Leopards have contacted Venda Football Academy coach Stan Nkoane to take over. Nkoane, a history-maker in the PSL, only joined VFA early last month.

Much was expected of Konadu at Leopards, given his extensive experience with Ghanaian junior and senior national teams. He has served as an assistant coach for the Black Stars under several managers, including Otto Addo during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Milovan Rajevac, Chris Hughton, Kwesi Appiah, and Avram Grant. He was an assistant coach when Grant’s Ghana side lost to Mali in the third-place playoff at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament won by Cameroon against Egypt, then coached by Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.

With Ghanaian football currently facing challenges, including their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco, it would not be surprising to see Konadu return to work with the Black Stars in some capacity.
