Cardoso Provides An Update About Zwane’s Injury

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has given an update about the injury of the Brazilians’ captain Themba Zwane.
Zwane, 35, suffered a serious with Bafana Bafana in October last year. He has been sidelined for almost five months now and the former club coach Manqoba Mngqithi once said that Zwane could be out for more than five months.
The Brazilians have been using different players in Zwane’s number 10 role, while Hugo Broos in Bafana Bafana was playing with Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi.
Meanwhile, the Tshwane giant’s coach Cardoso revealed that Zwane is an important player for Mamelodi Sundowns and also for South African football as well.
“Themba [Zwane] is an important player not only for Sundowns but for South African football as well,” Cardoso said after their 1-1 draw against AS FAR in the CAF Champions League group stage match on Sunday.
Following Sundowns’ draw against AS FAR, the Brazilians advanced to the quarterfinal of the Champions League as the runners-up in their group, joining their rivals in the Betway Premiership Orlando Pirates who finished top in Group B.
The Portuguese tactician also said Zwane’s injury is strong and they don’t want to put any pressure on him, but he is recovering very well.
“But no pressure on his [Zwane] recovery at all, there’s still time to go. It’s a very strong injury and we can’t put pressure on a situation like this. He is recovering well, but still time to go for sure,” he added.
The Brazilians will be back in action against the champions of the Carling Knockout Magesi on Wednesday. This will be the second meeting between these two sides this season as they played against each other in the final of Carling Knockout last year in Bloemfontein.
