Chiefs Clinch Soweto Derby Bragging Rights With Win Over Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs emerged victorious in the highly anticipated Soweto Derby, beating Orlando Pirates 2-0 in the DStv Diski Challenge festival show held at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in KwaMhlanga on Sunday afternoon.
Despite Pirates being the favorites to win, given their position as log leaders and Chiefs’ struggles in the league, Amakhosi managed to secure a convincing win with two second-half goals.
Kamogelo Malepo opened the scoring for Chiefs in the 51st minute, and Naledi Hlongwane sealed the win with a 73rd-minute goal.
This victory has given Chiefs the bragging rights in the Soweto Derby, although Pirates remain atop the log with 25 points in 11 games. Chiefs, meanwhile, are still in position number six with 17 points in 11 games.
The win marks a significant achievement for Chiefs, who are the defending champions of the league, and this was the third time in a row winning the Soweto Derby as they beat the Buccaneers last season in both league games.
In other matches on Sunday, the Limpopo Derby between Polokwane City and Magesi was abandoned due to heavy rainfall in the second half, with the score at 0-0. Sekhukhune United secured a 2-1 win over Richards Bay in Durban.
On Saturday, Mamelodi Sundowns also continued their good form, beating Stellenbosch 3-1.
The Brazilians remain in second place with 23 points in 11 games. TS Galaxy beat Orbit College 2-0, and other results included Siwelele’s 2-1 win over Marumo Gallants. There were 1-1 draws between Durban City and Chippa United, and Golden Arrows against AmaZulu, respectively.
