Chiefs Confirm Fleurs’ Memorial Service Date
Kaizer Chiefs has confirmed that they will have a memorial service for their fallen defender Luke Fleurs at FNB Stadium at noon on Thursday.
Fleurs tragically passed away on Wednesday last week, with Amakhosi officially confirming his passing the following day, as he was shot dead in a botched hijacking in Johannesburg.
The former SuperSport United defender passed away without playing a single match for Amakhosi, who signed him after he was released by SuperSport United late last year.
Chiefs, as was Fleurs’ boyhood club, handed him a two-year deal.
“Luke Donn Fleurs, born on March 3, 2000, was more than a football player; he was a beacon of hope and inspiration to many,” said Chiefs in a statement.
“His journey with SuperSport showcased his unwavering dedication, skill, and passion for the beautiful game.
“In honour of Luke Fleurs’ memory, a memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at noon. The service will take place at the iconic FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, a fitting venue to pay tribute to a beloved figure in South African football history.”
Fleurs was named the PSL Young Player of the Year in the 2021/22 season at the time with SuperSport.
