Chiefs Confirm Sirino Departure Amid Durban City Rumors

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departure of attacker Gaston Sirino, who is heavily linked with a move to Durban City.
Sirino arrived at Naturena ahead of the 2024/25 season following a trophy-laden stint with Mamelodi Sundowns, penning a two-year deal with Amakhosi.
The Uruguayan-born playmaker went on to make 52 appearances across all competitions for the Glamour Boys, netting five goals and registering eight assists during his two-year stay.
Despite his relatively brief spell at the club, Sirino etched his name into Amakhosi folklore. He played a pivotal role in helping Kaizer Chiefs finally end their grueling 10-year trophy drought, culminating in a historic Nedbank Cup triumph in 2025.
Sirino famously scored the decisive penalty to secure a -1 victory over arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the Ke Yona Cup final at Moses Mabhida Stadium in May 2025.
In an official statement, the club expressed their gratitude to the veteran midfielder:
“As Kaizer Chiefs bid farewell to Gaston Sirino, the Club would like to express sincere gratitude to ‘Papi’ for his dedication and contribution over the past two seasons. The experienced Uruguayan midfielder played a key role in helping Amakhosi achieve success since his arrival. We thank Gaston for his commitment and passion, as well as all the memories he leaves behind at Naturena. Nos vemos, Papi.“
Sirino’s departure was already predicted as far back as last month by this publication.
Sirino, whose contract officially expired at the end of last month, is now widely expected to head to KwaZulu-Natal to join Durban City. The move would reunite him with his former coach, Khalil Ben Youssef.
Ben Youssef worked closely with Sirino at Chiefs over the past two seasons, notably co-coaching the side alongside Cedric Kaze to a third-place finish last term. Should the deal go through, Durban City will become Sirino’s third South African club.
