Chiefs Secure Eighth Place With Draw Against Polokwane

Kaizer Chiefs held onto their eighth-place position in the DStv Premiership after a scoreless draw against 10th-placed Polokwane City at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

The first half was a defensive stalemate, with Chiefs only managing three goal attempts. Coach Gavin Johnson opted for substitutions in the 67th minute, bringing on attacking midfielder Mfundo Vilakazi for former Marumo Gallants striker Ranga Chivaviro and Sibongiseni Mthethwa in place of Edson Castillo.

In the 76th minute, Johnson made a symbolic change, introducing club veteran and captain Itumeleng Khune for Bruce Bvuma. This substitution paid homage to Khune’s recent departure from Kaizer Chiefs, which was announced earlier in the week.

Potentially playing his final minutes in a Chiefs shirt, Khune enjoyed a 14-minute cameo at FNB Stadium, making two crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet.

Despite continued pressure on the Polokwane City defense, Chiefs were unable to find a breakthrough before the final whistle. The Soweto giants remain in eighth place, tied on points (36) with AmaZulu, who secured a victory against Sekhukhune United on Saturday afternoon.

Amakhosi will look to solidify their top-eight position when they face already-relegated Cape Town Spurs in their final game of the season next Saturday.
