Chiefs Surge Into Top Three After Convincing Comeback Victory Over Orbit College

Kaizer Chiefs have climbed into the top three of the Betway Premiership after securing a dominant 3-1 victory over Orbit College at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Chiefs came into the encounter in fourth place with 36 points, but the win lifts them to 39 points after 21 matches, with a game still in hand. However, Amakhosi could drop back to fourth if AmaZulu FC defeat Sekhukhune United on Monday evening.

Orbit, meanwhile, remain in 15th position with just 18 points from 23 matches this season.

The goals for Amakhosi were scored by Wandile Duba, who netted in his second consecutive match, alongside Mduduzi Shabalala and Siphesihle Ndlovu. Orbit’s only goal came from Mbulelo Wagaba.

This result marks Chiefs’ second win over the Mswenko Boys, having also recorded a 4-1 victory in their first-round meeting last year.

Following this result, Amakhosi will return to action against TS Galaxy at FNB Stadium on Sunday, while Orbit will travel to the Free State to face Marumo Gallants on the same day.

Both sides started brightly, but it was Orbit who broke the deadlock in the 21st minute when Wagaba headed home from a tight angle into the top right corner, following an assist from former Chiefs winger Lebohang Lesako.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys responded well after conceding, maintaining their intensity and eventually finding the equaliser in the 41st minute. Duba scored with a left-footed strike from the centre of the box after being set up by Bradley Cross.

Chiefs took the lead in the 68th minute when Shabalala finished with a right-footed effort from the centre of the box, assisted by Thabiso Monyane.

They extended their advantage in the 78th minute as Ndlovu found the net with a right-footed strike from outside the box, following an assist from Flávio Silva to make it 3-1.

Amakhosi continued to push in the closing stages, creating several more chances but failing to add to their tally, as the match ended 3-1 in their favour.

The victory was Chiefs’ third in a row.
