Chipezeze Aims To Add Another Cup Trophy Against Sundowns

Magesi FC captain Elvis Chipezeze has expressed his gratitude to the club for providing him with an opportunity after leading them to the final of the Carling Knockout Cup.

Chipezeze was instrumental in goals as he claimed yet another R100,000 as a token of the Man of the Match award as Magesi held off Richards Bay to a 1-0 win at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.

The rookies will now face Mamelodi Sundowns in the final at Toyota Stadium on 21 November in Bloemfontein.

Sundowns went through after beating Bloemfontein-based side Marumo Gallants 2-0 at Dr Molemela Stadium on Sunday.

“With the help of the leadership at Magesi, it makes life easier for me,” said Chipezeze, who the R100,000 he earned was his third in this competition.

“It also adds pressure as one of the senior boys there, but that also comes with a pressure. But in this game, you can’t go anywhere without handling that pressure.

“I’m just grateful to be here because the club gave me a second chance when I was coming from Baroka, they brought me in for only one reason – to make this team grow. To be where we are now in the space of two years is something remarkable. I’m just grateful to be here and also helping the club to grow.”

The 34-year-old, known for his time-wasting tactics, previously won the Telkom Knockout with Baroka in the 2018/19 season when they beat Orlando Pirates on penalties.

He was named Player of the Tournament. While he downplayed the significance of his experience in the upcoming final against Sundowns, he acknowledged the excitement surrounding Magesi’s historic achievement.

“It is always nice to be in another cup final, in this country,” admitted Chipezeze.

“It means a lot to me personally. But these are exciting times for Magesi, we made history by becoming the first club coming from the Motsepe Foundation Championship that has grown in the cup and is in the final if I’m not mistaken.”

Well, Magesi is the second side to reach the League Cup final having been promoted the previous after Silver Stars in 2003.

“But we have made history for ourselves and that is the most important thing,” he concluded.
