Chippa Appoint ‘Kanu’ As New Head Coach

Chippa United have confirmed the appointment of Vusi Vilakazi, popularly known as Kanu, as their new head coach.
Vilakazi joins the Port Elizabeth-based club after parting ways with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Kruger United, paving the way for his return to Chippa.
The former Golden Arrows co-coach replaces Luc Eymael, who has been relieved of his duties following a string of poor results.
Chippa currently find themselves in a difficult position, sitting bottom of the Betway Premiership log. The team has managed just one win in 10 league matches, collecting six points in total. They have lost six, drawn three, and won once, a record that mirrors second-from-bottom Stellenbosch.
In a statement, the club confirmed Eymael’s departure and welcomed Vilakazi back to the fold:
“Chippa United FC confirms a mutual separation with Head Coach Luc Eymael.
We thank him for his professionalism and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
We are pleased to welcome back Kanu Vilakazi as the new Head Coach.
“Familiar with our club’s values and ambitions, he is well-placed to lead us forward in the Betway Premiership League.
To our loyal supporters — thank you for your belief and encouragement. We promise to bounce back stronger as the Chilli Boys.”
Eymael, who was appointed in August, became the fourth man to lead the team this season.
Chippa started the campaign with Sinethemba Badela, who was dismissed after just two matches. Musa Nyatama, now at Upington City, then took charge for one game before departing.
Morgan Mammila, the club’s administrator, also had a brief stint on the bench before Eymael’s arrival.
The Belgian mentor, who previously coached Polokwane City and Black Leopards in the PSL, oversaw seven matches in all competitions, managing just one win, two draws, and four losses.
Given that record, club chairman Siviwe Mpengesi has opted for yet another change in the technical team, appointing Vilakazi in the hope of turning the Chilli Boys’ season around.
