City Bolsters Midfield Yet Again

Cape Town City has secured the signing of midfielder Fortune Makaringe ahead of the new season. Makaringe joins the Citizens on a free transfer after being released by Orlando Pirates.
City offered the 31-year-old a three-year deal, snapping him up after his departure from Pirates at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Makaringe, who arrived at Pirates from Maritzburg United in 2019, struggled to find a regular starting spot in the latter half of the last campaign. Initially, he received significant playing time at right back due to Pirates’ defensive issues in that position. However, his appearances became limited, with a notable run of six consecutive matches between November and December of last year.

“Cape Town City is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder, Fortune Makaringe. The South African international signs a 3 year deal to bolster the midfield options ahead of the new season.”
The move reunites Makaringe with his former coach, Eric Tinkler. Tinkler previously mentored Makaringe at Maritzburg United.
Makaringe becomes City’s third official signing this offseason, following the arrivals of Haashim Domingo and Kayden Francis.
