DDC: Chiefs Ease Past CT City, Stellies Halt Sundowns

Dstv Diski Challenge log leaders Kaizer Chiefs extended their unbeaten run to an impressive 11 games after securing a comfortable 3-1 victory over Cape Town City at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Naledi Hlongwane, who has been touted for a promotion to the first-team, broke the deadlock before Imaar Hendricks and Neo Bohloko rounded up the scoring to ensure maximum points remain in Soweto. Amakhosi has collected 36 points after 15 matches played.

In Gqeberha, SuperSport United closed in on the top spot after making it five consecutive wins with a 6-4 victory against Chippa United at Buffalo City Stadium. Matsatsantsa climbed to second place with 34 points while the Chilli Boys are winless in their last 14 matches.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns saw their 10 games without defeat ended after they succumbed to a 4-3 defeat to Stellenbosch FC at Lucas Moripe Stadium. Interestingly, Stellies was the last team to overcome the Tshwane side in September 2024.

The Cape Winelands outfit remains in fourth place and four points behind Amakhosi after completing the double over Downs. Masandawana dropped down to third place as TS Galaxy and Polokwane City played out to a goalless stalemate.

On the other hand, Orlando Pirates made it two wins on the trot thanks to Siphamandla Msezane’s solitary goal against bottom-placed Marumo Gallants at Isak Steyl Stadium. The Bloemfontein-based outfit hasn’t won a match this season.

The Buccaneers are level on 25 points with sixth-placed Richards Bay, who tasted defeat for the first time in six games after a 2-1 loss to Sekhukhune United on home soil. For Babina Noko, the result means they have snapped a run of four consecutive defeats.

In a battle to avoid the axe, Golden Arrows moved eight points clear of the relegation zone after claiming three successive wins with a 3-1 win over Magesi FC at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Abafana Besthende ascended to 11th place with 14 points, level with Magesi in 10th.
