Dove Prioritizes Top Eight Finish Amidst Chiefs Contract Uncertainty

Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove is fully focused on helping his team secure a top-eight finish in the Betway Premiership despite his contract nearing its end in June.
Dove, who joined Amakhosi in 2022, has been a steadfast presence through challenging times, even contributing to their Nedbank Cup victory. With his current deal expiring soon, the Mozambican international remains unconcerned about his future, emphasizing what he can control.
“I think, as I said, you can only focus on what you can control; whatever you can’t, you just leave it in God’s hands,” he said
“At the moment I’m focused on what I can do to help the team qualify for the top eight, the rest is just rest.”
As Chiefs look to revive their glory days with promising young stars like Wandile Duba, Mfundo Vilakazi, and Aden McCarthy, the 30-year-old Dove stressed that responsibility isn’t solely on the shoulders of senior players.
“I think the most important thing is we know that we’re one, there’s no older, there’s no younger. We need the younger players, we have a lot of young and talented players, and they need to understand that to help the team doesn’t only come from older players, you know,” said Dove.
“We see now worldwide, younger players showing up and they need to realise that and as senior players we can only do as much, trying to make them understand that they’re important and the team needs them.”
Chiefs will conclude their rollercoaster campaign against Polokwane City at FNB Stadium on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 15:00.
