Zwane Aware Of Tough Challenge Ahead of Pyramids Clash

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Themba Zwane has acknowledged the significance of the upcoming CAF Champions League final against Egyptian giants Pyramids.
The first leg of the highly anticipated match will take place at Loftus Stadium on Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 15:00.
Zwane emphasized the importance of the game, saying, “Obviously, this is an important game for us as Mamelodi Sundowns because it’s a final. We know that they are going to give us a tough game, but we’ve prepared very well.”
The 35-year-old Sundowns captain, along with Denis Onyango, are the sole survivors of the side that won the Champions League with the club in 2016 under the legendary coach Pitso Mosimane.
If Sundowns win the Champions League, Zwane will become the first South African-based player to win the CAF prestigious club competition for the second time.
“We respect them, but we’ve been preparing for this game very well,” he added.
Sundowns has a favorable head-to-head record against Pyramids, having faced them twice in the 2023/24 season group stage of the Champions League. The Brazilians won 1-0 away and played out a 0-0 draw in South Africa.
As Sundowns aim to clinch their second Champions League title, they will need to maintain their form from the semifinals, where they edged out Al Ahly of Egypt.
Pyramids, on the other hand, beat Orlando Pirates in the semifinals.
The Egyptian side will be eager to make a strong impression in the first leg, knowing that a win or a draw would give them a crucial advantage ahead of the second leg.
The second leg is scheduled for June 1 at the 30 June Stadium in Egypt, with kickoff set for 19:00. Zwane’s words underscore the team’s determination and preparation for the
challenge ahead.
Sundowns’ history and recent performances make them strong contenders for the title, but Pyramids’ determination and home advantage in the second leg should not be
underestimated.
The stage is set for an exciting big showdown between two top African teams, with the winner claiming the coveted Champions League trophy.
With both teams hungry for victory, the Champions League final promises to be an electrifying encounter.
Will Sundowns’ experience and preparation be enough to overcome Pyramids’ determination, or will the Egyptian side pull off a stunning upset? The world will be
watching as these two giants of African football clash in the battle for continental supremacy.
