England Avoid Upset With Dramatic Late Goals From Bellingham And Kane

England escaped a potential embarrassment on Sunday, defeating Slovakia 2-1 in the round of 16 thanks to late heroics from Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham.

The match was a tense affair from the start, with Slovakia holding firm defensively. England dominated possession but struggled to create clear opportunities in the final third. Their frustration was evident as both Guehi and Bellingham received yellow cards within the first 17 minutes.

Slovakia capitalized on England’s struggles in the 25th minute when Ivan Shranz slotted home after a precise pass from David Strelec.

England pressed for an equalizer throughout the second half, but a VAR decision denied them a goal for a Phill Foden offside. Slovakia remained compact and frustrated the English attack for most of the half.

As the clock ticked down and an upset loomed, England finally found a breakthrough. In the dying moments of regulation time, Bellingham acrobatically volleyed home a dramatic equalizer.

The momentum shifted completely in extra time. Just a minute in, Kane rose highest to expertly head home an Ivan Toney flick-on, putting England in the lead.

Slovakia threw men forward in search of an equalizer, but England held firm to secure a dramatic victory and a place in the quarterfinals.
