Esterhuizen And Jansen Power Proteas To Dominant Series Sweep Lead Over Namibia
South Africa produced another dominant all-round performance to defeat Namibia by 157 runs in the second ODI in Windhoek on Friday, sealing the three-match series with one match still to play.
The Proteas posted an imposing 335/9 after being sent in to bat, with Connor Esterhuizen producing the standout performance as he scored his maiden ODI century.
Esterhuizen struck a superb 119 from 110 deliveries, anchoring the innings while providing the acceleration South Africa needed. His century was the defining moment of a strong batting display and earned him the Player of the Match award.
The right-hander received valuable support from Tony de Zorzi, who scored 79 off 87 deliveries during a 183-run partnership that provided the platform for South Africa to push beyond 300. The Proteas maintained a strong scoring rate despite losing wickets late in the innings, eventually reaching 335/9 from their 50 overs.
Namibia faced a daunting target of 336 and struggled to build any sustained momentum against a disciplined South African attack.
Duan Jansen was the chief destroyer with the ball, claiming four wickets as the Proteas repeatedly broke through the hosts’ batting order. His spell played a major role in preventing Namibia from building the partnerships they needed to mount a serious challenge.
At one stage, the hosts were teetering on 32/5, with Jansen receiving valuable support from Eathan Bosch.
Namibia were eventually bowled out for 178 in 41.5 overs, handing South Africa a convincing 157-run victory.
The result gives South Africa an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series following their victory in the opening ODI. The Proteas can now turn their attention to completing a clean sweep in the final match.
For South Africa, the victory was another encouraging display of their depth and balance. Esterhuizen’s breakthrough century provided a major highlight with the bat, while Jansen’s four-wicket haul underlined the firepower available in the bowling attack.
The Proteas will now turn their attention to the third and final ODI, while Namibia will look to respond after suffering two comprehensive defeats.
