Former Bok Coach Resigns In England

Former Springbok defense coach Felix Jones has reportedly left his role as assistant coach with the England national rugby team.

Jones joined the England coaching staff following his crucial contributions to South Africa’s successful defense of the Rugby World Cup title in France last year. He was appointed under head coach Steve Borthwick, with SA Rugby announcing his departure early in 2023.

The announcement coincided with the departure of then-head coach Jacques Nienaber, who subsequently joined Munster in Ireland. Jones was a trusted figure within the Springboks’ coaching staff, known for his innovative approach, particularly the use of flood lights during the World Cup.

He also played a key role in South Africa’s 2019 World Cup victory over England and was expected to bring a similar level of innovation to the English team. However, his tenure with England has ended after just 10 months, despite his contract running until next year.

Following Jones’ departure from the Springboks, New Zealand international Tony Brown was appointed as his replacement.

It remains to be seen where Jones will go next, as he is highly regarded in rugby. However, speculation has gone to the roof that he may rejoin his former colleague Jacques Nienaber at Munster or potentially return to the Springboks in the future.

England will face the Springbok in November in the Autumn Nations series.
