Stellenbosch Crush Eswatini Side By 8 Goals In CAF Tie

Stellenbosch advances to the next stage in the CAF Confederation Cup after routing Nsingizini Hotspurs in the return fixture of their tie at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Stellenbosch were already three goals to the good, having scored three times last weekend in the first leg at the same venue on Saturday.

But coach Steve Barker did not relent as he brought his big guns to this return fixture, such as Sage Stephens, Sihle Nduli, Andre De Jong, Sanele Barns and Fawaaz Basadien.

They showed their intentions clear as Bradely Mojela broke away in the fifth minute to leave his marker for dead on the far side, but his cross to the sweet spot could not be met by a teammates for all his good intentions.

However, for the second time in asking, the former TS Galaxy speedster punished the visitors to further extend their aggregate advantage to four goals in this tie.

This after De Jong’s shot was palmed in the path of Mojela, who reacted the quickest to head it from close range in the ninth minute.

And, it was not the last time Sibusiso Dlamini would visit his net. In the 27th minute, the newly promoted player from the Diski Challenge weaved past Nsingizini’s defense to fire a rocket ball from close range, putting Stellenbosch two goals up in the first half.

In the second half, Stellies made a triple substitution, amongst other subs, Unathi Mdaka who appeared in the Stellies colors for the first time.

With the second half starting similarly to the first one, Stellenbosch extended their lead to three goals with De Jong tapping one home from close ranger after a defensive blunder.

As the dust settled, debutant Mdaka ran through middle of Nsingizini’s defense to slot home their fourth goal in the match.

As Stellenbosch continued to flex their muscles, the game looked more like a practice for their upcoming MTN 8 tie against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday.

However, Stellies were not done yet, as Mervin Borji had his say in the 89th minute putting them further ahead of their weak opponents, as far as the score is concerned.

Unfortunately for the Eswatini side, this 8-0 aggregate score is a confirmation of their exit from the CAF Confed Cup.
