From MLS Loan To Sundowns Star: The “Right Mentality” Sparking Tsiki’s Resurgence

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has praised the rapid development of Katlego Ntsabeleng, noting that the midfielder is finally reaping the rewards of his patience and tactical adjustment to the club’s demanding philosophy.
Ntsabeleng, currently on loan from MLS side FC Dallas, is beginning to justify the hype that accompanied his arrival.
After an outstanding display in the 4-1 demolition of Chippa United at Loftus Versfeld on Friday—where he provided a clinical assist for Iqraam Rayners and scooped his first Man of the Match award—the 28-year-old maintained his momentum on Tuesday.
He netted his first league goal in Sundowns’ colors against Durban City, latching onto a Marcelo Allende pass to coolly slot past Darren Keet in the 10th minute at Chatsworth Stadium.
“Tsiki, we knew that he was a player of quality,” said Cardoso.
“He had to adapt to our way of playing and had to wait for the opportunity. And in the absence of other players, he got a chance, and he did well.
“He has been training very well and consistently. I really praise the boy for the attitude that he has.
“Since January, when we restarted the season, he came to the right spot, right mentality. Yes, he is doing well, and for sure we will need him for the future.”
Ntsabeleng’s recent surge comes at a critical juncture. With his FC Dallas contract set to expire in June, the midfielder is essentially playing for his future.
Whether he returns to the United States or Sundowns moves to secure him as a free agent remains to be seen.
The midfielder has now tallied one goal and an assist in eight appearances across all competitions.
His biggest test, however, may come this Sunday. Cardoso must decide whether to include the in-form playmaker for the daunting CAF Champions League semi-final first leg against Esperance at the 60,000-capacity Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi.
This high-stakes encounter marks the third semi-final meeting between these two African giants in just three seasons.
