Grobler’s Brace Hands Chiefs First Loss As Sekhukhune Tops PSL

Veteran striker Bradley Grobler was the star of the show as he was involved in three goals, leading Sekhukhune United to a dominant 3-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.
Grobler scored two goals, one in each half, and also provided an assist for Thabang Monare. This was Chiefs’ first loss and the first time they have conceded a goal all season.
Grobler’s Historic Performance
With this win, Sekhukhune has reclaimed the top spot in the Betway Premiership from Mamelodi Sundowns. Sekhukhune now has 16 points from six matches, two points clear of Sundowns, who will play against Marumo Gallants on Wednesday.
Grobler’s two goals against Chiefs mean he has now scored more goals against the Soweto Giants than any other club in his PSL career, with a total of 12 goals in 25 matches. His previous best record was against Royal AM, with 11 goals in 21 matches.
Sekhukhune’s strong defensive record, having only conceded two goals all season, combined with Grobler’s clinical finishing, has positioned them as a serious contender for the league title.
Both teams entered the match with an unbeaten record for the 2025/26 season, each determined to secure a victory and maintain their winning streak.
Grobler Strikes Early
Sekhukhune’s Grobler capitalized on a defensive error by Aden McCarthy and Paseko Mako in the fourth minute. Following a cross from Tsepo Matsimbi, Grobler scored, giving his side an early 1-0 lead.
However, Chiefs responded quickly. In the 12th minute, a brilliant run from Lilepo led to a cross that found new signing Flavio Da Silva, who scored his second goal in as many appearances to equalize.
As the half progressed, the game became more balanced with both sides creating chances. Chiefs almost took the lead in the 31st minute with a powerful strike from Reeve Frosler just outside the box. The first half concluded with an entertaining 1-1 draw.
Sekhukhune Seals the Victory
Grobler continued his impressive performance in the second half, scoring a brace in the 49th minute with a stunning turn and powerful strike to put Sekhukhune up 2-1.
Sekhukhune extended their lead to 3-1 just six minutes later when Thabang Monare found the back of the net after a headed pass from Grobler.
With 70 minutes played, Chiefs began to take control of the game, but Sekhukhune’s defense remained resolute. In the 80th minute, substitute Thabo Cele attempted to score, but his strike was blocked by the goalkeeper.
With this win, Sekhukhune has now defeated both Soweto Giants early this season, having also beaten Orlando Pirates in their first match at Orlando Stadium.
