“I’m Not Messi”: Why Flavio Is The New Hero Chiefs Fans Craved

Kaizer Chiefs striker Flavio Da Silva has expressed his satisfaction with life in South Africa, highlighting his seamless adaptation and clinical form since joining the Soweto giants.

The 29-year-old Guinea-Bissau international arrived at Naturena during the off-season, signing with Amakhosi after parting ways with Indonesian side Persebaya Surabaya. During his tenure in Indonesia, Da Silva proved his reliability as a forward, netting nine goals and providing two assists in 33 league appearances.

Since arriving in the PSL, Da Silva has elevated his game. He has already found the back of the net eight times across all competitions and contributed two assists, becoming a focal point of the Chiefs’ attack. His latest contribution came in a vital victory over TS Galaxy, where he again demonstrated sharp positional awareness and a clinical eye for goal.

Thriving Under Pressure

For Da Silva, the weight of the gold and black jersey is a privilege rather than a burden.

“I have nothing to complain about my time here in South Africa so far; it is the kind of atmosphere that I love to be in,” he said.

“Since I was a child, I have been praying to play for this kind of team – a big club with big pressure. So, for me, it’s a dream to play for such a club with a lot of pressure.

“It is good pressure with responsibility as well, and it is a good feeling to play under such pressure. When you play for a club like this, it means you are playing at a good level.”

Reflecting on his goal-scoring contributions, Da Silva emphasized the importance of teamwork in his success.

“It is always about teamwork, and I usually tell my teammates that I will score a lot of goals,” he added.

“I’m not (Lionel) Messi or (Cristiano) Ronaldo, meaning I will not dribble past three or four players to score goals.

“I only make my movements because I know my teammates will pass me the ball, and I believe in them. As I said, it is always about teamwork – I make my movements.”

Da Silva will look to maintain his hot streak this Wednesday night as Kaizer Chiefs travel to Peter Mokaba Stadium to face Magesi.
