Johnson Lauds Saile

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson has lauded Christian Saile for his stunning strike in their 2-1 victory over SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership match at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night.

Saile, who faced high expectations this season, delivered a powerful shot in the 19th minute. Pule Mmodi’s initial cross evaded everyone, but the Congolese forward cleverly retrieved it and sent it into the net.

SuperSport equalized from the penalty spot through Terrence Dzvukamanja in the 53rd minute. However, Saile wasn’t done. He set up the winning goal for Mduduzi Shabalala in the 76th minute. Shabalala controlled the pass on the edge of the box and fired what appeared to be a weak shot, but it had enough power to beat Washington Arubi.

This victory ended Chiefs’ six-game winless streak, which included four scoreless matches and losses in their last three outings. The win propelled them to eighth place in the table with 33 points after 24 matches.

“It is not something that he (Saile) can’t do,” said Johnson to SuperSport TV after the game.

“It is something that he does at training all the time. Like I said before we started, we do a lot at our training sessions and today it comes off and I hope tomorrow and the day after. But it’s work in progress, and we must hard for the next game.”

Johnson expressed relief about his team’s return to winning ways after a challenging period.

“Number one, you got to say we have broken the end after a long time,” he reflected.

“But thanks to the fans, thanks for coming out, watching the game. But I thought it was a very difficult game and when you play against Gavin Hunt it is always hard.  Yes, we got the goals, you can see on the pitch – the players are happy. They put in a lot of hard work, and we got the three points and that is what we came here for.”
