Johnson Vows To Focus To Remaining Games

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson expressed confidence that his players understand their expectations as they head into the final stretch of the season.

The win against SuperSport United (2-1) at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night was a much-needed boost for Chiefs. It snapped a four-game losing streak and secured their return to the top eight of the DStv Premiership with 33 points after 25 matches.

The victory also marked the end of a four-game scoreless run, with Christian Saile’s first-half goal offering a glimmer of hope for the Soweto giants, who haven’t lifted the league title since 2015.

“We’ll be going back to the drawing board to ensure the players have a clear picture of what’s required of them in the remaining four or five games,” Johnson said after the match.

Mfundo Vilakazi, who recently received a contract extension until June 2028, entered the game as a second-half substitute in Polokwane. Fans have been eager to see him start a match since his promotion to the topflight.

When asked about Vilakazi’s potential starting role, Johnson remained cautious.

“It depends on the tactics we employ against our next opponents,” he explained. “We’ll see how he can best contribute to the team’s success. He’s a talented player, and he will get his starting opportunity soon.”

Chiefs’ next challenge is a home fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium on Thursday. The African giants need just six points to secure another league title, while Chiefs continue their long wait for championship glory since 2015.
