Kambindu Aims To Prove His Worth At AmaZulu

AmaZulu striker Elmo Kambindu has acknowledged the need to improve his goal-scoring record, particularly given his statistics at his former club, Chippa United.
Kambindu joined Usuthu during the January transfer window, but his previous PSL goal-scoring form was a concern for the club, who were seeking a reliable goal scorer.
The 31-year-old Namibian international scored just five goals in 45 appearances for Chippa United after joining them in 2022. Notably, he failed to score in the first half of the current season for Chippa, with his last goal for the club coming in May of the previous year against Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup semi-final.
“It is always difficult and different, especially as a striker, when a lot is expected from you,” Kambindu said. “You have to be there as an anchor of the team; to help the team to score goals, and I’m working on that. Eventually, the goals will come; it is just a matter of time.”
In contrast to his barren spell at Chippa, Kambindu has already found the net once in his first two matches for Usuthu. He scored a header in their 2-2 draw against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium and delivered strong performances in both that game and Usuthu’s subsequent win against Marumo Gallants at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Kambindu, the eighth Namibian player to represent Usuthu, feels that scoring early in his tenure has helped him settle into his new surroundings.
“I’m just getting started,” he said, now with six goals in 47 PSL appearances. “I’m happy that I scored a goal in my first two games. I’m working hard as well to get more goals, and the guys have welcomed me well, and I feel like I’m at home.”
Usuthu, currently seventh in the Betway Premiership with 23 points from 17 games, face Gallants again in the Nedbank Cup round of 16 at Dr. Molemela Stadium on Saturday (15:00).
