Kaze Praises Chiefs Players’ Desire To Bounce Back

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze praised the determination and mindset of his squad, saying their response against Durban City showed how eager they were to improve and deliver a positive performance after a difficult run of results.

The Burundian mentor and Chiefs breathed a sigh of relief following a win over Durban City on Sunday, which came at a crucial moment for the team following a string of disappointing results in the league.

Chiefs had previously suffered three consecutive league defeats against Stellenbosch, Orlando Pirates and Richards Bay, results that placed increased pressure on the players as they looked to return to winning ways.

According to Kaze, the players approached the game with a clear desire to perform better after those setbacks, showing strong character and a willingness to fight for the badge.

“I believe that they (players) wanted to do well in this game,” Kaze said.

“But sometimes the feeling of not making the right decisions, then you doubt your mind. So, when you doubt it means it is difficult in your mind.

“But the character and personality that they had on the field, I think it was positive because they knew what was at stake and I am sure even in the next few days we will be better.”

The victory also had a positive impact on the league standings, as the Phefeni Glamour Boys moved from sixth place to fifth place with 33 points after 19 matches in the Betway Premiership standings.

Kaze admitted that the team had experienced a challenging period leading up to the encounter, but emphasized that pressure is part of playing for a club of Chiefs’ stature.

“It is true that we had a tough period,” he added.

“But everyone understands that to play for this massive club, the pressure is always there, especially as we come from a difficult run of results and not having good outcomes.

“The players needed to understand that everyone has a responsibility, and we just needed to cope with that.”

Kaze, who previously cast doubt whether he will be at the club next season, added: “The message that we told them during the week was to block the noise outside, then concentrate on football. The only way to come out of these situations is to find the football solutions in terms of how we attack and defend.”

Amakhosi will now shift their focus to their next challenge in the league when they face struggling Magesi at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday as they look to build on their renewed momentum.
