Kodisang: I Will Give My Best At Sundowns

Returnee South African international Kobamelo Kodisang has explained why he decided to return to South Africa.

Kodisang was signed by Mamelodi Sundowns on a five-year contract. The 24-year-old right winger, who made his name in Portugal’s Primeira Liga with Moreirense FC, is eager to bring his talent back home. He joined a Sundowns side that is in a transitional phase, despite having won the league title for a seventh successive year and the African Football League.

“I love the style of play, and Sundowns is a big team. It’s the team I wanted to play for here at home,” he shared.

Kodisang’s journey began as a teenage prodigy with Platinum Stars, where he made his PSL debut at just 16. His early promise saw him move to Wits before venturing to Europe at 18. In Portugal, he played for Sanjoanense on loan, progressed to Braga B, and then secured a spot at Moreirense. Despite the cultural and lifestyle challenges, Kodisang thrived, refining his skills in a league renowned for its technical prowess.

“I want to give the club my absolute best and see where it takes me,” he stated, revealing a humble yet determined mindset.

Reflecting on his love for the game, Kodisang admitted that football was initially just a hobby. Over time, it became a serious pursuit. “The love has always been there as I couldn’t go a day without playing football,” he reminisced. His transition from a pastime to a profession was supported by mentors at Platinum Stars. “Most of them gave me motivation, and the coach helped me relax,” he recalled, emphasizing the importance of support in his formative years.

Kodisang’s experience in Portugal offered him insights into a different style of play. “It’s different there, even the playing style is different from home. They move the ball much more,” he explained. While adapting to a new culture was challenging, it broadened his perspective and honed his abilities.

With Sundowns, Kodisang aims to add more titles to his resume. “I want to win the league,” he declared, aligning himself with a club that has clinched seven consecutive league titles. His aspirations extend to the national team, where he hopes to cement his place after representing South Africa at junior levels.

Kodisang is eager to learn from his new teammates and believes confidence will be key to his success. “I think I will be surrounded by good players, and there’s a lot to learn from them,” he noted.
