Sundowns Sign Bafana Bafana International

Mamelodi Sundowns have beefed up their squad with the signing of Bafana Bafana international Kobamelo Kodisang on a five-year deal.

Kodisang joins the Brazilians from Portuguese side Moreirense, where he spent the past two seasons.

The 24-year-old winger left South Africa in the 2019/20 season after Bidvest Wits, who had acquired him from the relegated Platinum Stars, secured his services.

He initially ventured abroad to Sporting Braga, featuring for their reserve side for three seasons before making an appearance with the senior team. Moreirense then signed him two years ago.

Kodisang was previously linked with a return to South Africa last year, with Kaizer Chiefs interested, but the move fell through.

He was part of David Notoane’s South Africa Under-23 side that participated in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Despite losing all three group-stage matches, Kodisang scored in the 4-3 defeat to France, which was the only time the young South Africans found the net in the tournament.

Kodisang becomes Sundowns’ first signing ahead of the new season. The Brazilians recently parted ways with several players, including Junior Mendieta, Brian Onyango, Thabiso Kutumela, Bongani Zungu, and Gaston Sirino.

Head coach Rulani Mokwena also departed the club at the end of last season. Steve Komphela has returned to assist Manqoba Mngqithi in the new campaign.
