Komphela Attracts Interest From Tanzania
Golden Arrows coach Steve Komphela is reportedly a target for Tanzanian giants Simba SC.
Komphela, who joined Arrows in March 2024 to steady the ship after a string of poor results under Mabhuti Khenyeza, is said to be in advanced talks with Simba, according to Tanzanian media reports. Simba are searching for a new coach after parting ways with Algerian manager Abdelhack Benchikha before the end of last season.
The reports claim Simba officials, led by Chairman Salim Abdallah, have been conducting online meetings with Komphela to discuss a potential contract. These discussions aim to bring the former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns coach to Simba.
The reports further mention Komphela’s performance with Arrows. “He joined Golden Arrows in March this year and finished the South African Premier League season in ninth place.”
Komphela arrived at Arrows during a difficult period, with the team enduring an 11-game winless run (excluding a technical win awarded against Moroka Swallows). However, he managed to end this streak in his first match, defeating Polokwane City.
Overall, Komphela’s record with Arrows in the past season is mixed. He won three games in all competitions, lost two (including a heavy 7-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates), and drew six (one of which was against champions Mamelodi Sundowns) in his 11 matches in charge.
Prior to joining Arrows, Komphela spent a brief and strressful stint at Swallows in the first half of the season before leaving and join Arrows. He previously enjoyed a successful three-year spell with Sundowns, winning three league titles, the MTN8, and the Nedbank Cup.
