“It Is Nonsense!”: Furious Jordaan Lashes Out Over Broos Bafana Contract Reports
South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan has come out swinging, dismissing reports that Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has signed a one-year contract extension as complete “nonsense.”
Speaking on his return from North America, Jordaan clarified that while Broos remains under contract until the end of the month, no new deal has been finalized.
Broos Future Up in the Air After World Cup Exit
Broos had previously signaled his intention to retire following Bafana Bafana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, which ended with a round-of-32 exit against co-hosts Canada. However, upon returning to South Africa, the former Cameroon boss appears to have had a change of heart.
Sportswire understands that SAFA leadership has yet to sit down with the Belgian tactician, who is currently holidaying in Belgium and scheduled to return later this month to thrash out his future.
Despite earlier public statements from Jordaan promising a sit-down meeting to map the way forward, rumors began circulating that a 12-month extension had already been inked—a claim the SAFA chief forcefully rejected.
“One thing I can say is that there is no such thing as us having signed a one-year contract with Broos,” Jordaan stated firmly. “It doesn’t exist; it is nonsense. It is better that these nonsenses are not put out there. I just came back [from the World Cup], saw the reports, and said, ‘What is this now?’ It is nonsense.”
Fiery Exchange Over Bafana Coaching Role
When pressed on whether SAFA currently has a head coach, Jordaan insisted, “We have a coach.”
However, when asked directly by reporters to name the individual, Jordaan declined to provide a name, citing constitutional procedures.
“We will deal with that,” Jordaan said regarding the identity of the head coach.
“There is a process. The Technical Committee makes a recommendation to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of SAFA, and the NEC decides on the appointment of the coach. You cannot stop me on the street and hijack a decision; it is not going to happen. South Africa must wait and understand that the World Cup only just ended.”
The exchange grew heated as reporters pressed the SAFA president on the ambiguity surrounding the technical bench, drawing a sharp response from an increasingly agitated Jordaan.
“Then you have your answer. Why are you asking? Don’t interrupt when I’m talking. You are out of order, and you must behave yourselves,” Jordaan snapped.
“Again, we have processes that must happen. You must wait. I just arrived back in the country on Wednesday from the World Cup, and I haven’t even met with everyone from SAFA yet.”
