Broos Back To Attend Adams’ Funeral Ahead Of Crucial SAFA Contract Talks

Sportswire has been informed that Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos will return to South Africa this weekend to attend the funeral service of Jayden Adams on Saturday.

Following the service, the Belgian strategist is scheduled for a showdown meeting with the South African Football Association (SAFA) leadership on Monday.

Broos—who famously guided Bafana Bafana to the FIFA World Cup round of 32 in the USA, Canada, and Mexico for the first time in South Africa’s history—will see his current contract with SAFA expire at the end of this month.

After South Africa’s historic World Cup run was ended by co-hosts Canada, SAFA President Danny Jordaan stated that the federation would meet with Broos upon the team’s return.

However, the former defender—who placed fourth at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico as a player with Belgium—headed home for a holiday before any discussions took place.

Broos is now returning to pay his final respects to Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams. The young star tragically passed away just weeks after featuring in three of South Africa’s four World Cup matches in North America, a loss that brought widespread grief across the football community.

SAFA recently hit back at reports claiming Broos had agreed to a one-year contract extension, with Jordaan dismissing the rumors as “nonsense” and insisting those discussions do not exist.

Months before the World Cup kicked off, Broos indicated he planned to retire from football, citing his 55 years in the game as both a player and a coach. He noted that he could not see himself on the sidelines for the 2030 World Cup, when he will be 78 years old.

However, prior to the pivotal match against Canada, he did express an openness to stepping into a less demanding role within South African football so he could spend more time with his family.
